Pomegranar is a virtual art gallery. Viewers can navigate through the gallery using controls to pause and advance through the exhibit. The gallery consists of artwork, videos, and music. The theme of the Summer exhibit focuses on love — specifically different types of love (or lack thereof) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The overarching theme of all pomegranar exhibits are built around the theme of togetherness while apart.

Yasaman Nouri is the featured artist and creator of the gallery. She draws on her Persian background for this project. Pomegranates (or anar/انار in Farsi) are a cherished fruit and important symbol in my culture. The name Pomegranar combines both the English and Farsi words to signify and reflect the coexistence and conflicts of both identities within the artist.

Pomegranar was originally intended to be an in-person interactive art installation happening in 2020. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the project went on hold. Eight months into the pandemic, Yasaman realized that people needed a COVID-safe event that was entertaining, cultural, and had a social component so that viewers could feel connected while staying safe at home. She wanted to recreate a date night event such as going to an art gallery or the theatre. She adapted both the project medium and her skills as an artist to bring this project to life.

Pomegranar provides opportunities for emerging artists who have also been deeply impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. These artists have also had to take on the challenge of adapting their skills to fit a new digital medium of storytelling. At the end of the day we are all storytellers and we adapt to our circumstances.

Pomegranar exhibits will have four total exhibits in 2021: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. The premiere exhibit took place on the Perisan holiday Norouz/نوروز (spring equinox), and the finale which will be the culminating exhibit will take place on Shabe Yalda/شب یلدا (winter solstice), the holiday in which pomegranates are an important part of the festival celebrations.
